Have you ever considered how much the calendar matters when handling taxpayer dollars?
Accurate property-tax bills, prompt receipting and recording of payments, and distributing collected funds to local taxing bodies on schedule all support steady, predictable cash flow.
That practical discipline can help reduce the need for avoidable short-term borrowing. When borrowing is necessary, it can carry interest costs that taxpayers ultimately pay. Good financial management means planning ahead, following the schedule, and keeping every dollar properly tracked.
The County Board makes county budget and borrowing decisions. As Treasurer, my responsibility would be collecting, billing, receipting, recording, distributing, safeguarding, prudently investing, and reporting public funds with care and accountability. I would not set tax rates, determine property assessments, or approve the county budget.
As an Accountant and practical problem solver, I believe responsible stewardship starts with getting the timing right. Leadership that listens, action that works. Every dollar has a name.
