Yesterday afternoon, we were honored to accept $1 million in federal funding to support the development of our Public Safety Training Facility. We were joined by our partners at San Joaquin Delta College and City of Lodi officials to recognize this important investment in our region’s public safety future.

Since breaking ground in August, this project has continued to move forward, and this funding will help build on that progress. We are grateful to Representative Josh Harder for securing this community project funding and for his continued support of our public safety efforts.

This investment will expand training opportunities, strengthen regional partnerships, and help prepare current and future public safety professionals to better serve and protect our communities. Working alongside San Joaquin Delta College, we are proud to advance our shared vision of creating a premier public safety training facility that will benefit our region for years to come.

This $1 million investment marks an important milestone for the project and brings us one step closer to making this shared vision a reality. We appreciate everyone who has helped move this effort forward and look forward to the next phases of construction as this exciting project continues to take shape.

On October 17th, 2026, the Lodi Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Dan Bristow said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The Lodi Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant.

On October 11, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Lodi Police Department officers responded to the 1900 block of Wyndham regarding an armed robbery involving a juvenile victim. The victim reported that he had arranged to sell an iPad through social media. When the buyer arrived, he brandished a handgun, stole the iPad, and fled the area in a white SUV. Officers identified the suspect’s vehicle using footage from a nearby security camera.

Less than an hour later, officers received another report of a similar incident in the 300 block of Culbertson Avenue. During this incident, the same suspect reportedly brandished a handgun and stole a gaming controller from the second victim.

Officers located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Harney Lane and Mills Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and officers detained the suspect, later identified as George Marquez (19 of Galt). During the stop, Marquez was found to be in possession of the pictured G***k 19 ai***ft gun, which he had in his waistband. He was also found to be in possession of the items that were reported stolen by the victims.

Marquez was ultimately arrested and booked into the County Jail for two counts of robbery.

Safety Reminder: When buying or selling items through social media or online marketplaces, always take precautions to protect yourself. Meet in a public, well-lit location and avoid meeting alone.

Last week, on 10/06/26, the Lodi Police Department and Lodi Community Improvement conducted a To***co Retail inspection at a local to***co retail shop in the 200 block of W. Lodi Ave. This location, like several others in the city, has generated numerous complaints from concerned citizens about illegal sales of flavored to***co. During the inspection, officers located over 1,000 flavored to***co items, such as to***co pouches, flavored ci**rs, flavor-enhancing wraps, and flavored v**e pens, in plain view and in hidden locations throughout the store. Community Improvement identified multiple violations and provided the owner with a list of items to correct.

This operation was funded through a partnership with the San Joaquin County Public Health Department and a To***co Enforcement grant through the Department of Justice.

This partnership and grant aim to support enforcement, compliance, and education efforts that help protect our youth and promote a safe, healthy community.
