Join us on Saturday, November 21st for our Turkey Trot 5K & 1-Mike Walk to celebrate the opening of Logan’s Safe Route to School and to honor those who helped us get here!

Every dollar raised from the Turkey Trot will go toward trail lighting, helping make this new community asset even better for the people who will use it for years to come.

The Logan Turkey Trot 5k/1mile is on Saturday November 21, 2026. It includes the following events: 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk.

Phase 01 of Logan’s new trail system - Safe Routes to School - a project that started with our community’s vision in the 2022 Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program. Logan spoke loud and clear — Safe Routes to School was our #1 need, and we are so excited to turn this vision into reality!

For the first time ever, Logan will have a safe, dedicated connection between town and our school. This trail will give students, families, and residents of all ages a protected way to walk, bike, and enjoy active living in the heart of the Loess Hills.

And this is just the beginning — Phase 01 launches a 5+ mile trail system that will shape Logan’s future for decades.

This project is powered by DOT grants, local grants, city funds, and community donations. Huge thanks to Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., a Kleinfelder Company, our engineering partner, and Armodus, the contractor bringing this trail to life.

8.12.26 - Safe Route to School recreational trail construction is officially underway and expected to be complete by year end!!

We will continue to post project updates on this page which stemmed from our Logan Community Visioning in 2022; however, please be sure to follow Logan Community Foundation for more frequent community betterment initiatives.

🚸 SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL / PHASE 01 TRAILS UPDATE

Dustin Moores and his crew have been hard at work clearing trees as we prepare for the Safe Routes to School trail project—the first step toward a future community-wide trail system.

This project is made possible through nearly $1 million in Iowa DOT funding, along with generous local donations and city support for the required matching funds.

All final plans have been approved by the DOT and bidding is scheduled to begin in mid-April. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, bringing us one step closer to a safer more connected community.
