🇺🇸 Welcome Home, Cpl. Kenneth E. Matson 🇺🇸
This evening, our community will have the honor of welcoming one of our own home.
U.S. Army Cpl. Kenneth E. Matson, a West Virginian who served with the legendary Merrill’s Marauders during World War II, was killed in action on June 28, 1944, during the Battle of Myitkyina in Burma. For more than 80 years, his family never had the opportunity to bring him home. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, his remains were identified in 2025, allowing him to finally return to the place he called home.
Just as our community has came together before, we invite everyone to once again line the streets and show our respect for a true American hero.
Cpl. Matson is expected to enter Logan County on U.S 119 at approximately 7:30pm and in Man at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at approximately 8:10pm this evening.
Please join us as we stand together in gratitude and remembrance, honoring a soldier who gave everything for our country. Though it has taken more than eight decades, he is finally coming home.
Welcome home, hero! 🇺🇸
