❀️ Supporting Loleta Fire
Every year, we as volunteers respond to hundreds of calls in and around our community. We leave our families, jobs, dinners, beds, and whatever else we happen to be doing to answer the call when our neighbors need us. πŸš’
Keeping a volunteer fire department ready takes more than firefighters. It takes training, equipment, maintenance, and a whole lot of community support.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported Loleta Fire over the years. Whether you've donated, brought food, helped with an event, or simply cheered us on, it all means more than you probably realize. ❀️
If you would like to make a donation to Loleta Fire District, your support helps us continue training, maintaining our equipment, and staying prepared for those hundreds of calls each year.
We're proud to serve Loleta, and we're thankful to have a community that supports its volunteers. β€οΈπŸš’

🍫🍩 Firefighter Favorite Snack Stash 🍫🍩

Long calls, midnight mutual aid covers, training days… sometimes firefighters run on more than just adrenaline. Snacks are important. πŸ˜‚

You'll find them shoved into web gear on wildland fires, tucked into the engines for anyone to grab, and occasionally hidden in very strategic locations. πŸ‘€

And yes, we have a few opinions on the best emergency snacks:

🍫 Seth: A fan of Lisa's hidden candy stash
πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Jeff: Doesn't have a favorite. Apparently snacks aren't his thing.
πŸͺ Chase: Whatever is stashed on the engine
πŸ₯œ Dustin: Granola bars & trail mix
🍫 Maren: Chocolate chip granola bars
🍬 Lisa: Hides candy everywhere... but always keeps a Payday in her turnouts πŸ˜‚
πŸ₯œ Missie: Peanut M&Ms
🍩 Russ: Donuts. Obviously.
🍫 Tim: Heath bars or Jerkey
πŸ₯œ Patty: Cashews

And we're pretty sure Lisa's candy stash has become department property at this point. πŸ˜‚

What's your go-to emergency snack? πŸ‘‡

PUBLIC NOTICE: Live Fire and Rural Water Operations, and Shuttle Training Scheduled near Eel River Estuary Preserve

Tomorrow October 10th from 8:00am until Noon Ferndale Fire Department, alongside partner agencies from across the region, will be conducting a joint live fire training burn and rural water shuttle exercise on Russ Lane, near the Eel River Estuary Preserve. This comprehensive operation provides local firefighters with vital hands-on experience in structure fire suppression, command logistics, and continuous water supply delivery in rural terrain.

As a result of the controlled burn, smoke will be clearly visible throughout the Ferndale bottomlands and surrounding areas. Residents and community members are kindly asked to refrain from calling 911 to report smoke originating from the Russ Lane area, ensuring emergency dispatch lines remain open for actual calls for service.

Travelers should also prepare for an increased presence of emergency apparatus and heavy equipment throughout the area. Multiple water tenders will be actively traveling back and forth between the exercise site on Russ Lane and municipal fill points in town to simulate real world water supply operations. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution, slow down along main routes, and remain mindful of turning emergency vehicles.

Mastering rural water shuttle tactics is critical for protecting homes, barns, and agricultural infrastructure in areas lacking municipal fire hydrants. Multi-agency exercises like this ensure seamless coordination, clear communication, and efficient water delivery when seconds count. Ferndale Fire Department thanks the community for its patience, cooperation, and continued support as local emergency responders work together to keep their skills sharp.

πŸŽ‰πŸ”₯ Happy Birthday to Firefighter EMT Maren Ellis! πŸ”₯πŸŽ‰

Yes, this is Maren writing her own birthday post. πŸ˜‚

If I'm going to make everyone else participate in birthday posts, I figured I better be fair and participate in my own. πŸ˜‚

So, everyone wish Firefighter EMT Maren Ellis a happy birthday! πŸŽ‚πŸ₯³

I promise I won't be offended if this post gets approximately 3 likes and everyone forgets to comment. 🀣

πŸ”Ž Fire Prevention Week Safety Hunt!

Time for a little walk around your house. How many hazards can you find?

Look for:

πŸ”Œ Overloaded outlets or power strips
⚑ Damaged cords
πŸ”₯ Candles too close to things that can burn
🧯 Fire extinguishers that are blocked or hard to reach
πŸšͺ Doors or windows that could be difficult to get out of
πŸ”‹ Devices or batteries charging in unsafe places
🚨 Smoke alarms that are missing, blocked or not working

Turn it into a family challenge! Have the kids help spot the hazards and see what you can fix together.

You don't have to wait for an emergency to think about fire safety. Sometimes the best time to find a hazard is when everything is calm and you're just walking around your house. πŸ‘€πŸ”₯

With some much-deserved time off work, Commissioner JB just couldn’t relax, so he spent the last two afternoons sprucing up the sign in front of the station! πŸš’

The last time this sign got some TLC was when it was put up around 40 years ago. It was designed by long-standing officer Eric Thomsen and brought to life by the firefighter JB… yes, one and the same!

Some things change, but the pride in our department stays the same. ❀️

🏠 Fire Prevention Week: Do You Have an Escape Plan?

If there was a fire in your home tonight, would everyone know what to do?

Take a few minutes this week to make a plan!

πŸšͺ Find two ways out of every room if possible
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Pick a meeting place outside, a safe distance from your home
πŸ”₯ Make sure everyone knows to get out and stay out
πŸ§’ Talk to kids about what to do if they can't find you
πŸŒ™ Practice your plan at night, when it's dark and everyone is asleep

And don't forget to make sure your smoke alarms are working!

A plan is great. Practicing the plan is even better.

πŸ”₯ Fire Is Hot. Dark. Dangerous.

Movies make fires look bright and easy to see, but a real house fire can be very different.

Smoke can make it dark, confusing and difficult to breathe, and conditions can become dangerous very quickly.

That's why we want everyone to remember:

πŸ”₯ Fire is HOT
πŸŒ‘ Smoke can make it DARK
😷 Smoke makes it HARD TO BREATHE
πŸšͺ You may have only a short amount of time to get out

Don't wait around to see what happens. Get out, stay out and call 911.

Your best chance of surviving a fire is to get out early and stay out.

πŸ”Œ Fire Prevention Week: Charge Safely!

We all have phones, tablets, batteries, toys and other devices that need charging. But charging them safely matters!

A few simple reminders:
πŸ“± Use the charger and cord made for your device when possible
⚑ Don't use damaged or frayed cords
πŸ›‹οΈ Don't charge devices under pillows, blankets or on soft surfaces
πŸ”₯ Keep charging devices away from things that can burn
πŸ‘€ Don't ignore a battery that is swelling, getting unusually hot or acting strange

And when you're heading to bed or leaving the house, take a quick look around. If something is charging, make sure it's charging safely!

A few extra seconds can help prevent a fire. ❀️‍πŸ”₯
