Travelers' Rest State Park shifts to winter hours beginning October 1. The visitor center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday. The visitor center will also be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

The park entrance gate will remain open to vehicles daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Pedestrian entrances and park trails are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year.

Are you BEAR AWARE? Refresh on bear safety tips, practice with inert bear spray cans, and connect with local experts. This free, family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a variety of drop-in booths and activities. Meet with representatives from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and other organizations dedicated to keeping you and bears safe!

10 am: Lee Silliman talks about our current exhibit "Ursus Horribilis: The Grizzly Bear Illustrated." This exhibit closes next week so be sure to see it before it is gone!

11 am: Trekker Kids returns for the fall season! As a part of the Fall Bear Aware Information Event, learn about grizzly bear habitat and behaviors, followed by crafting.

TODAY'S THE DAY to check out historic replicas from the Lewis & Clark Expedition, paint ornaments for the National Capitol Christmas Tree, take a virtual reality trip on the trail, taste recipes from the Expedition and Bigfoot Pizza. All at Travelers' Rest State Park until 2 p.m!

There are places where history is something you read about. And then there are places where history is still there beneath your boots. High in the Bitterroot Mountains, between Weippe, Idaho, and Travelers’ Rest, Montana, the Lolo Corridor is one of those places. For centuries, it has been a travel route through the mountains—a landscape used by Indigenous peoples long before the Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed it in 1805 and 1806.
