This evening, East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue was dispatched by London-Laurel County 911 Center to establish a landing zone for Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County who needed air medical to fly a patient out for a medical emergency. Firefighters responded and established and secured a LZ for EMS. One patient flown out by Air Evac Lifeteam 109 - Manchester, KY. All responders are clear of the scene.
This is why you might have seen a large presence of emergency lights at a local church tonight. The church is one of our pre-determined landing zones. We have certain landing zones we frequently use at night because they are safer because usually the pilots are familiar and they have less obstacles. In our county the fire department is responsible for establishing any landing zone that is not a helipad and is responsible for maintaining the safety and securement of that landing zone so that everyone stays safe, especially our Air Medical friends who depend on us to help keep them safe during the most dangerous times of their job, landing and lifting. We are glad to assist our fellow emergency responders with whatever they need!
