Azimuth Check Foundation Comprised of six board members, all of whom are veterans, except one who values the dedication and sacrifice veterans have made on behalf of this country.

Azimuth Check Foundation helps veterans and their families find their way by fostering community, identify, and purpose through year-round outdoor programs that promote wellness, resilience, and connection. we have long been aware of a gap in desperately needed wellness programs for injured warriors in Northern New England. ACF helps heroes find their way by providing injured warriors with challenging year-round athletic activities. It is our core belief that participation in these activities creates wellness in an atmosphere of camaraderie.

One Veteran recently described an ACF program as a chance to see “people do things they thought were beyond their ability.”

We get to watch that happen in all kinds of ways. Sometimes it’s reaching the top of a climb, finishing a long ride, trying a new sport, or simply showing up for something that felt intimidating at first.

Having other Veterans there to encourage you along the way can make a hard thing feel a little more possible.

Throughout August and September, Post 1917 chose Azimuth Check Foundation as a beneficiary of its Dining for a Cause program, with a portion of Tuesday dinner proceeds supporting our work with veterans and their families.

We’re incredibly grateful to Chef Jason Carron, the Post 1917 team, and everyone who chose to dine with them during those months.

Partnerships like this allow ACF to continue offering outdoor programs at no cost to participants, removing some of the financial barriers that can stand between a veteran and their next opportunity to get outside, try something new, and spend time with people who understand.

Thank you, Post 1917, for choosing to support ACF and for helping us continue Helping Heroes Find Their Way.

On this day in U.S. Army SF history.....19 Oct 2001 – First two U.S. Army teams inserted into Afghanistan to work with Northern Alliance Forces, ODA 555 (5th Special Forces Group). These are the first American military "boots on the ground," after the 9/11 attacks.

The first of several SF elements infiltrated Afghanistan. Eleven members of ODA 555, onboard MH-47 Chinook helicopters, arrived late in the evening at the Astaneh camp in Panjshir Valley and received their initial briefing. Within a few days, ODA 555 would link up with NA’s General Bismullah near Bagram. That same night, the 12 men of ODA 595 infiltrated the Darya Suf Valley on MH-47s to join General Dostum’s forces in Dehi, some 60 miles south of Mazar-e Sharif. Not long after the team split into two sections, one accompanying Dostum to his headquarters, the other remaining at Dehi.

We have some incredible news to share.

Azimuth Check Foundation recently received $67,506.35 through charitable gaming at Gate City Casino.

This funding will support ACF’s administrative and operating expenses in 2027, helping provide the foundation behind the year-round programs we offer to veterans and their families.

Program grants often help pay for things like lodging, meals, equipment, transportation, and professional instruction. Just as important is the work happening behind the scenes to coordinate those programs, communicate with participants, maintain organizational systems, build partnerships, and keep ACF moving forward.

We are tremendously grateful to Gate City Casino, the New Hampshire charitable gaming program, and everyone whose participation helped make this support possible.

Thank you for investing in ACF and in the work that makes these programs possible throughout the year.

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy!

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the beginnings of what would become the U.S. Navy.

For more than two and a half centuries, generations of Sailors have served at sea and around the world, carrying forward a tradition of service, readiness, and sacrifice.

Today we recognize Navy service members, veterans, and families, and thank them for all they have given in service to our country.

On October 12, as communities across the country observe Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day in different ways, we’re taking a moment to recognize the long history of the lands and waters where we hike, climb, bike, fish, and gather.

So much of ACF’s work happens outdoors, and spending time in these places also means respecting the histories, cultures, and communities connected to them.

We’re grateful for the mountains, forests, trails, and waterways that give veterans a place to challenge themselves, spend time together, and reconnect, and for the responsibility we all share in caring for those places.

October 10 is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme focuses on the importance of listening to lived experience.

That feels especially relevant to ACF because some of the clearest insight we get comes directly from the veterans who participate in our programs. One participant recently reflected that the experience “made me realize we do need to connect,” while others have talked about feeling accepted, supported, challenged, and less isolated.

Those reflections are a reminder that mental health is not only about what happens in a clinic or during a crisis. It is also shaped by connection, belonging, confidence, movement, time outside, and having people around you who understand.

We’re grateful to the veterans who trust us enough to share what these experiences have meant to them.

A lot of ACF programs are made stronger by the organizations and people who join us in the work.

Over the past year, we’ve had opportunities to work alongside partners including Veteran's Adaptive Sports & Training, Camp Resilience, Hidden Battles, Badger Wilderness Guides, Wounded Warrior Project, and others who share a commitment to supporting Veterans and their families.

Those relationships bring different experience, resources, and people to the table, and ultimately create more ways for Veterans to find the kind of opportunity that works for them.

We’re grateful for the community growing around this work.
