The events that unfolded in North Long Beach on October 17th are deeply concerning. I condemn the aggressive tactics used by federal immigration agents (ICE), which left Ricardo Gonzalez, a Long Beach resident and U.S. citizen, seriously injured. These tactics are unacceptable and have no place in any of our neighborhoods. These actions continue to cause fear and uncertainty among families in our community.
For eight years, I had the privilege of representing North Long Beach on the Long Beach Unified School Board. I know this community and the families who call it home, making the events of this past weekend especially troubling. I stand with our community and fellow public officials and remain committed to protecting the dignity and rights of everyone who calls Long Beach home, regardless of their background or immigration status.
Our commitment to the Long Beach Values Act remains steadfast. Long Beach is a community that values dignity, safety, and respect. - Councilwoman Megan Kerr
