The Heart of Ida The Heart of Ida supports Long Beach seniors in need with programs and services that sustain independence and connection within their community.

The Heart of Ida envisions a community where every senior has the support they need to live independently and thrive, including feeling heard, appreciated, connected, cared for, and safe. Heart of Ida was founded in 2008 by sisters Dina Berg and Keri Reich in honor of their beloved grandmother, Ida. Ida modeled service to low-income, isolated older adults, and the sisters carried on her legacy by establishing Long Beach’s only 501c3 exclusively serving the older adult population. Heart of Ida leads an extraordinary person-centered approach to vulnerable adults by partnering with volunteers, city, and community organizations.

Join us every Friday from 10 AM – 1 PM for at The Long Beach Senior Center! Together we’ll transform everyday materials into creative projects while learning simple ways to reuse, repurpose, recycle, and compost.

💚 What to expect:

✨Hands-on DIY activities
✨Free art materialsFun lessons on the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle)

💗Words cannot express how deeply grateful we are! Thanks to 90 incredible donors, Heart of Ida officially surpassed our original $15,000 goal and raised a grand total of $19,235 Long Beach Gives 2026!
Every single gift is a direct investment in the health, dignity, and independence of local older adults.

💗 Where your $19,235 in funding will go: 🍲 Benefits Enrollment Services: Providing high-touch, 1-1 guidance to connect low-income seniors with CalFresh nutrition benefits, Medical, Medicare Part D, and Medicare Savings Programs. 📲 1-1 Technology Assistance: Helping older adults master smartphones and laptops so they can access telehealth, online resources, and family connections independently. 📞 Initiatives:Sustaining bi-weekly messages, health and wellness classes, CSULB partnerships, drop-in office hours, and programs that combat senior isolation.
