When I read this good news, I immediately thought of the survivors and first responders of 9/11 in Queens and in the 37th Assembly District, which I know so well, in particular. I am grateful for the hard work of so many Democrats and their ongoing commitment to ensure all first responders will have access to the WTC Health Program.

Local leaders Nijema Rivera and Eddie Lettau led a group of Democrats to the Queens County Democrats Women's Luncheon. Ridgewood Democratic Club members support efforts to elect more Democratic women. The Club has pledged to support constituents and take back the 37th Assembly District seat from the current disgraced Assembly member.

The people of the 37th District deserve integrity with compassionate, competent representation in Albany; someone who is respected enough to sponsor legislation, bring home services, and meet people's needs. The local Assembly member has to have a functioning District office, advocate effectively on issues with an open mind and work full-time without distractions at improving the quality of life for our community.
I cannot rescind an endorsement of Juan Ardila because I never extended one in the first place. I was, and remain, troubled by his earlier bigoted Facebook comments. I was deeply concerned as to how he would handle the responsibilities of being an Assemblymember. All those accused have rights too, but Mr. Ardila has admitted to predatory treatment of at least two women and will not be able to represent us fairly in Albany. The 37th Assembly district supports survivors.
My endorsement in June went to an outstanding woman for the 37th Assembly district because, as this episode illustrates, Albany needs to hear the voices and experiences of women. Mr. Ardila never showed me that he would be an effective advocate for our district and its people. This has proved to be the case.
I urge the people of our district, who honored me with their votes many times, to find a new representative. One who actually lives in and knows our district, someone who has experience, demonstrates honesty, and whose advocacy will not be minimized by personal scandal.
I pledge my energies to uplift survivors of sexual assault and assist those who want to represent the 37th Assembly district in Albany at such a critical time. It's time for someone other than Juan Ardila to work for the people of Queens, without distraction and with integrity. I will be meeting, as my health permits, with the people of our district regarding a new leader .
