Today, members of A and C Group headed to the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Springfield for hands-on live fire training alongside our Mutual Aid partners from East Longmeadow Fire Department.
Live fire training gives firefighters the opportunity to work in realistic fire conditions while practicing critical skills, including: hose line advancement, fire behavior recognition, ventilation, communication, and coordinated fireground operations.
Training in a controlled environment allows firefighters to:
- Experience real heat, smoke, and fire behavior
- Practice making quick, informed decisions under pressure
- Improve hose line and nozzle skills
- Understand how ventilation and flow paths affect a fire
- Build teamwork and communication between crews
- Reinforce safe and effective fireground tactics
- Gain confidence before facing these conditions on an actual emergency
The experience gained during live fire training is invaluable. We train in controlled conditions so we can perform when conditions are anything but controlled.
B and D shift will be participating later this month for their training evolutions!
A big thank you to the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and East Longmeadow Fire Department for a great day of training!
