🚨 STATE OF EMERGENCY 🚨

Residents,

Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency for Atlantic County and seven other New Jersey counties due to the Nor’easter currently impacting our area. The State is warning of significant coastal flooding, high winds, heavy rain, power outages, and potentially impassable roadways.

Longport is currently experiencing significant flooding. Our officers have closed as many flooded roadways as possible, and the Ocean City-Longport Boulevard (JFK Bridge) will be closed to incoming traffic.

We cannot stress this enough: please stay home and stay off the roads.

DO NOT attempt to drive around barricades or through flooded roadways. If you choose to travel during these conditions and your vehicle becomes stranded, emergency personnel may not be able to safely reach you.

Please allow Police, Fire, Public Works, and other emergency personnel the room they need to safely respond to storm-related incidents and emergencies.

For all emergencies, dial 9-1-1. Non-emergent matters can be called into dispatch at (609) 822-2141.

Stay home. Stay safe. Allow the storm to pass. We are here if you need us.

🚨ATTENTION RESIDENTS🚨

With the Nor’easter expected to impact our area this weekend, we would like to remind everyone to take some time now to prepare for the conditions that may follow.

We are expected to experience high winds, flooding, and the potential for extended power outages.

As wind speeds increase, we typically see an increase in downed trees, branches, and power lines. When combined with flooding, these conditions can create serious hazards for both residents and emergency personnel.

We ask that you take a few simple steps now to help keep yourself, your family, and our community safe:

• If you live in an area prone to flooding, expect flooding to occur, particularly during high tide hours. High tides are expected between 6–9 AM and 6–9 PM.

• Secure or bring in outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, and other loose items that could become hazardous in high winds.

• Move vehicles from low-lying and flood-prone areas before water begins to rise.

• Prepare for the possibility of extended power outages by charging necessary devices and having flashlights and other essentials readily available.

• Please keep driving to a minimum, especially during periods of flooding. Never attempt to drive through standing or moving floodwater.

• If you must walk outside, use extreme caution around standing water, downed wires, and wind-blown debris. Always assume a downed wire is energized and keep your distance.

• Electric vehicle owners should take additional precautions. Avoid parking or charging EVs in areas susceptible to flooding, and never drive through floodwater.

• If you have a secondary residence outside of the affected area and anticipate significant flooding around your Longport residence, consider relocating before conditions deteriorate.

Our Police, Fire, and Public Works personnel will be prepared and working throughout the storm. Limiting unnecessary travel will allow our crews to safely address hazards and respond to emergencies as they arise.

Please take the time to prepare before the weather arrives. Look out for your neighbors, use good judgment, and continue to monitor official updates as conditions develop.

As always, for any emergency please dial 9-1-1. Our non-emergency number is (609) 822-2141.

Be prepared and stay safe.

🚨PRESS RELEASE🚨

Stolen Motor Vehicle Eludes Officers

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 3:09 p.m., officers observed a black BMW X6 in the area of S. 11th Avenue and Atlantic Avenue. A registration inquiry confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Newark, New Jersey.

An officer subsequently attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the area of S. 20th Avenue and Atlantic Avenue. The driver failed to stop and accelerated away from the officer at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued on Atlantic Ave before turning onto S. 28th Avenue and traveling over the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge at a high rate of speed.

In accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Vehicular Pursuit Policy, officers did not continue pursuing the vehicle. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were immediately notified and provided with the vehicle’s registration and identifying information.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents and visitors that motor vehicle thefts are often crimes of opportunity. Please remember to lock your vehicle, remove your keys or key fob, secure your belongings, and never leave your vehicle running while unattended.

We also encourage our community to remain vigilant. If you observe suspicious activity, please contact our Police Department. In the case of an emergency or if you witness a crime in progress, call 9-1-1.

Public safety is a shared responsibility. By remaining alert and looking out for one another, we can continue working together to keep our community safe.
