At Longview Fire, our department is family—and that includes our children. Today, we want to share an inspiring story about Katelyn Daniel, the daughter of one of our Battalion Chiefs.

At just 24 years old, on the exact same day she was accepted into nursing school, Katelyn was diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer. She bravely put her life on hold for a year to fight the disease, and her resilience is nothing short of amazing.

Fast forward to today: Katelyn is now a 26-year-old Registered Nurse living just down the road in Kilgore. She has overcome unimaginable hurdles, is engaged to be married, is expecting a baby girl, and is working toward becoming an oncology nurse at Texas Oncology to help others fighting the same battle.

We are so incredibly proud of Katelyn and the strength she has shown. She is a true fighter and an inspiration to our entire Longview Fire family! ❤️🚒

The same day that Katelyn Daniel was accepted into nursing school, the 24-year-old was diagnosed with stage 3, triple-negative breast cancer. “I never knew how common cancer was in younger people until I was diagnosed,” says Daniel, now a 26-year-old R.N. who lives in Kilgore, Texas. Did you know one of Longview’s historic fire stations dates back to 1936?

In 1935, voters approved bonds to fund a new City Hall and fire stations, including one on Mobberly Avenue, south of Young Street in the Idylwood Subdivision.

Built in the Tudor style, the station features brick and stucco walls, a slate roof, copper accents, and a courtyard. C.S. Lambie & Co., also known for constructing the Gregg County Courthouse, served as the contractor, with N.L. Peters as the architect.

A little piece of Longview’s history worth remembering!

Our crews stayed busy last month! In September, the Longview Fire Department responded to 1,881 incidents across our community. We also deployed numerous EMTF, TIFMAS, and TX-TF1 crews across Texas. Here is a breakdown of our calls for the month:

🚨 Texas Proclaims MIH Week! 🚨

We are proud to share that Governor Greg Abbott has officially proclaimed October 4–10, 2026, as Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Week in Texas!

At the Longview Fire Department, we are honored to serve our community through our MIH program. Every day, our team sees firsthand how this approach improves access to care, bridges healthcare gaps, and builds a healthier, safer Longview.

A huge thank you to Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott for recognizing this vital work and championing MIH across our great state.

We also want to send a special shout-out to our fellow NAMIHP Member Agencies for their continuous, collaborative advocacy across Texas. Together, we are making a difference! 🚑🩺

🚒 Excellence in Rescue. Proud of Our Team. 🚒

We are incredibly proud of our members who represented the Longview Fire Department at the Annual Texas Rescue Competition!

Our team finished 2nd overall in the final rankings. These results reflect the countless hours of training, teamwork, dedication, and commitment our members put into their craft. Their drive to continually improve ensures they are prepared to perform at the highest level when our community needs them most.

Special thanks to TRC, the City of Waco, and Baylor University for hosting the event. Also, thanks to Maple Leaf Ropes for providing prizes for the competitors. Congratulations to our team on an outstanding performance! We are proud of the work our members continue to put in to be among the very best.
