πŸš’ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK – DAY 5 πŸš’

πŸ”₯ Day 5: Practice Your Escape Plan – Every Second Counts!

When a fire starts, you may have less than 2 minutes to escape safely. Having a plan and practicing it could save your family’s life.

🏠 Today’s Fire Safety Tips:

βœ… Practice your escape plan: Conduct a home fire drill with everyone in your household at least twice a year.

βœ… Know two ways out: Identify two exits from every room, including windows when safe and accessible.

βœ… Stay low and go: Smoke and toxic gases rise. Crawl low beneath the smoke when escaping.

βœ… Get out and stay out: Never go back inside a burning building for belongings or pets.

βœ… Have a meeting place: Choose a safe location outside, away from your home, where everyone can meet.

βœ… Teach children: Make sure children know how to escape, recognize the sound of a smoke alarm, and never hide from firefighters.

🐾 Don’t Forget Your Pets!
Include pets in your family’s escape plan. Keep leashes and carriers accessible, but never delay your escape or re-enter a burning home to rescue an animal. Tell firefighters if a pet is still inside.

πŸš’ A Message from Lonsdale Fire & Rescue

As Fire Prevention Week comes to a close, remember that fire safety doesn’t end today.

Check your smoke alarms, practice your escape plan, and talk with your family about what to do in an emergency.

Fire prevention starts with YOU. Be prepared. Stay alert. Stay safe.

πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK – DAY 4

Heating & Electrical Safety β€” Prevent Fires Before They Start!

Heating equipment and electrical problems are common causes of home fires. Taking a few simple precautions can help protect your home and family.

πŸ”₯ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including furniture, curtains, bedding, and clothing.

πŸ”Œ Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets. Never use extension cords or power strips with portable heaters.

🏠 Turn off space heaters when leaving a room or going to bed. Never leave them unattended.

⚑ Don’t overload electrical outlets. Avoid plugging too many appliances into one outlet or power strip.

🚫 Inspect electrical cords regularly. Replace damaged, frayed, or cracked cords immediately. Never run extension cords under rugs or furniture.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Keep children and pets away from space heaters, fireplaces, electrical cords, and other heating equipment.

πŸš’ Have heating systems, fireplaces, and chimneys inspected and maintained by qualified professionals.

🚨 Know the warning signs! Flickering lights, frequently tripped breakers, burning smells, or unusually warm outlets may indicate an electrical hazard.

Remember: A little prevention today can prevent a devastating fire tomorrow.

Stay Safe. Stay Warm. Prevent Fires.
