We would like to express our gratitude to the Loogootee Public Library for inviting our department to speak during Fire Prevention Week. We are very fortunate to have dedicated members who take the time to participate in such events. Excellent work by everyone involved. Loogootee Public Library

This organization serves as one of our county’s premier volunteer groups, providing critical support to the County Emergency Management agency during disaster response operations. We are fortunate to have these dedicated individuals available to assist during times of need, as they ensure multi-county communications functionality in the event of telecommunications failure. Training exercises such as this provide the group with valuable opportunities to refine their operational tactics and techniques in a controlled environment, ensuring readiness for actual emergency scenarios. I encourage anyone interested in becoming a licensed amateur radio operator to contact the group; they are committed to providing the necessary certification and training to help you become a significant asset to both your family and the county.

Commendable work, Martin County Amateur Radio Club - MCARC

ATTENTION:

Any community members needing CPR or a CPR recert Shana Ramsey will be teaching a class this month at the station. Having a local CPR instructor is an amazing asset so please take advantage of this opportunity.

JG Media obtained some fantastic photos of the Shoals catfish parade. Our station was represented with two vehicles in the parade and had a few members assist with traffic control.

Parades offer a great chance for the citizens of the county to see the departments' assets and see some of the faces of their county's first responders. JG Media

Due to the heat and humidity, as well as the upcoming festivities, it is recommended that you take regular breaks and drink plenty of fluids. Heat-related injuries are preventable. It is essential to listen to your body. Stay safe and have a fun-filled summer.

This is great to see.

In every disaster situation, communication is the greatest asset you can have. When cell phones stop working, ham radios and qualified operators become instrumental for emergency services to continue operating smoothly.

The Martin County Amateur Radio Club - MCARC is an amazing asset for the county. Anyone wanting to learn about radios, assist emergency response efforts, or just have peace of mind that when a disaster hits you can contact someone for help, should reach out and come to a meeting to become a qualified operator.

We went 4 for 4 on successful license testing during our June Testing Session!

Congratulations to our 1 new Technician licensee, who received a free radio from the club, and to the 3 operators who upgraded from Technician to General Class.

If you’re interested in amateur radio and would like advice on resources to help you study for your basic Technician license — and receive your free radio after successfully licensing — drop an “Interested” comment below and we’ll reach out to you on Messenger.

A big thank-you to the Martin County EMA and the Volunteer Examiners who helped make this testing session possible.
