Sheffield Township fire department along with Lorain County technical rescue team, practice on a simulation of a vehicle that crashed into a house. The training involved extraction of the driver pinned in the driver's seat, a person trapped under the car inside the house, and a person that was under the kitchen cabinets. The Tech team taught us how to look for the dangers in possible collapse of the house and how to secure the house to make it safe. They then shored the house up to prevent a collapse and make it safe. The tech team brought in their truck that carries equipment that helps support them in different types of rescues they may encounter.
Great training involving cross training across different agencies. Thank you Lorain county Technical team for training with us, what a great experience working with all of you. Thanks to the Vaughn family for your support with providing the vehicle. Vaughn's Auto Repair And 24 Hour Towing , D&A Towing and Recovery.

Sheffield Township is seeking revenue for its fire department and emergency services through an additional 2.5-mill levy in November.

A larger 3.5-mill levy was voted down last year, which would have generated $307,000 per year to help pay for a new fire truck and other expenses.

This caused the township to continue to seek revenue for the fire department with the smaller 2.5-mill levy.

A statement from Sheffield Township trustee Chad Parsons said the levy would be used to help cover everyday costs of the fire and EMS department, including: utilities and other operating expenses, fire station maintenance and repairs, firefighting and EMS supplies, maintenance and operating costs for emergency vehicles and equipment and other necessary expenses.

Fire Chief Richard Husar said the demand for the department has increased dramatically, even with being in a small community.

“We’re looking to run near 1,300 calls this year, and that’s police and EMS together,” he said. “For a very small department, that’s very overwhelming.”

If the levy does not generate the anticipated revenue, the township may have to make reductions or other changes to its fire and EMS operations, which could affect the level or availability of services, the statement said.

There could also be an impact on the department’s staffing, which currently has two personnel on duty all day and night, Husar said.

Husar said the levy will help the department maintain the rising costs of equipment, fuel and other day-to-day expenses that help keep the department going.

“The cost of equipment nowadays has gone up immensely, just because of the demand for equipment and the cost to repair things,” Husar said.
