Hi everyone! My name is Nancy and this is my last post as the person creating and sharing social content for JusticeCorps here. I started my journey as an Academic Year service member at Chatsworth Courthouse as a college junior and continued through the summer. From my senior year onward, I served as a University Rep. and ambassador for the program to pay my service experience forward and help recruit new members who provide much-needed legal aid across the county.

Helping underserved parents and partners in L.A. navigate the complexities of our legal system was an especially meaningful experience. As a JC, I was able to assist litigants who couldn’t afford attorney representation with petitions and responses to orders in Family Law cases and provided assistance in my native language, Armenian.

Hearing a sigh of relief from a litigant at the end of an appointment was the most rewarding part of my service. This experience making tangible applications of the law to serve local litigants one-on-one led me on the pursuit for greater capacity to help people obtain relief through the law.

I’m excited to continue this journey at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law as a 1L and am beyond grateful to everyone at JusticeCorps for all the opportunities to mentor, be creative, learn, grow, and provide equal access to justice to our community!

Congratulations to our University Representative, Alejandra, who is an incoming fellow at the Long Beach Courthouse!

"During my first year at JusticeCorps, I served as the university rep in my senior year at Long Beach State and it was probably my best year at Long Beach State. From the start, I knew I wanted to join the program as a fellow and was given the amazing opportunity to serve as a fellow this upcoming year!

During my time as a university rep, I worked closely with JC staff, undergrad members, and fellows every person I encountered is motivated and passionate about serving the community. This motivated me also to continue the program as a fellow. Working alongside the JC staff and university reps I have grown my professional skills, such as strengthening my leadership and confidence.

Being in the program is such a rewarding experience because I had learned so much about the legal field and exploring my options, this past year is something I will cherish after serving as a university rep in JusticeCorps. As a new fellow at JusticeCorps, I will continue to learn and gain experience in serving my community. I cannot wait for what is to come this upcoming year working alongside attorneys, legal aids, and co-fellows!"

Congratulations to our fellow Catherine on her post-JC role as a Neighborhood Legal Services Paralegal!

“JusticeCorps has been such a formative experience for me as I navigate my professional life before law school. After serving as an undergraduate JusticeCorps member during my sophomore year at UCLA, I knew that coming back as a fellow would allow me even more exposure and experience in expanding our communities' access to justice. I am grateful to have had that opportunity tenfold in assisting with all kinds of family law matters; this legal experience has helped guide me in choosing what field I want to go into next.

Far and away, I'm going to miss my coworkers most. I am so grateful for my wonderful co-fellows, who have made my fellowship year one filled with support and laughter! I have felt so welcome at the Pomona Self-Help Center and by our legal aid partner in Pomona, Neighborhood Legal Services, so much so that I decided to apply for a position with NLS! Every person that I have interacted with in my time at Self-Help has been essential in my professional and personal growth this past year.

I'm excited to continue to work with the greater Los Angeles community at NLS this year as an Outreach Coordinator for the Stop the Hate project. I look forward to doing more public interest work both this year and beyond!"

Congratulations to Fellow Emily who will begin her post-JC career as a Paralegal with Neighborhood Legal Services!

“I joined JusticeCorps after working closely with fellows while I was a volunteer at the self-center. I loved seeing how they to dedicated their time to helping self-represented lititgants, so I joined JusticeCorps and I’ve stayed on for two years. Being able to work one on one with litigants has been incredibly rewarding. Each day has brought something new, and I have loved every challenge I've faced.

I am so thankful to have worked with such a supportive and kind team. The JusticeCorps program is near and dear to my heart, and I appreciate every single person I've met along the way. While it's time for me to leave the program, I will always be grateful for how JusticeCorps fueled my passion for helping self-represented litigants.

I'm beyond excited to continue giving back to my community as a paralegal with Neighborhood Legal Services. I can't wait to expand my knowledge and continue providing access to justice!”

Congratulations to our Fellow Sara who is pursuing a Master’s post-JusticeCorps!

“JusticeCorps has allowed me to develop my passion for social equity by empowering the public to engage in important decision-making processes that better their lives and community. I cannot imagine what each service day would look like without the incredible support of Self-Help staff and my fellow cohort. I will miss everyone, especially my East Region team!

I am excited to begin the UEP program at Tufts University this Fall and apply the skills I gained from JC to achieve desired and just outcomes for families and communities. At Tufts, I plan to focus on sustainable transportation or economic development. I am excited to move to Boston, connect with people, and build my career in government!”
