The federal activity happening in our SFV community isn’t new. We’ve constantly been a target for ICE.

Now with an alleged 45 day “Operation Safe California” being pushed to scare our community it’s important to remind yourself how to respond if you see agents or enforcement.

📌 Exercise caution if you witness activity of kidnappings.
📌 Date and time stamp any videos
📌 Call the rapid response team at 888-624-4752

Let’s empower and not Panic!

Who doesn’t love an empanada?? For Hispanic Heritage Month this year, I visited W.E. World Empanadas inc with my team to learn about their traditional empanadas, how to make them, and to recognize their 14 years of serving Burbank with their delicious meals! It’s places like these that bring the richness and joy of community feel into SD 20.

Families researching and choosing Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly for a loved one shouldn't have to guess about its violation history. With SB 991 now law, the DSS public licensing website will give consumers clearer information as you find a place for your loved one and bring transparency for legislators to know how prominent the issue is to address abuse occurring in certain RCFEs.

As a social worker, I know how important it is to have the tools to best support our community. That’s why I’m proud SB 1051 was signed into law. SB 1051 adds Bridge Navigators as an eligible referral for subsidized childcare to reduce the long waiting times and get more families back in the workforce once their foster child gets into childcare.

To every survivor, you deserve to be heard. You deserve to be believed. You deserve the freedom to heal.

SB 1364, ensures survivors of sexual assault have the ability to move forward without being forced into an ongoing co-parenting relationship with the person who harmed them, and AB 1267, setting the minimum age for marriage at 18 with NO exceptions. Both bills have been signed into law by Governor Newsom taking an important step forward in supporting survivors of sexual assault and children in CA.
