Avance will host its Annual Chingona & Chingon Awards on September 22nd at the iconic Plaza De La Raza in Lincoln Heights. Each year, Avance honors individuals that exemplify Latino excellence and community service.
We are proud to announce this year’s Chingon Award will be presented by 2019 Chingon Recipient Ron Herrera, President of the LA County Federation of Labor, to this year's honoree Mark Gonzalez, Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
Also joining us is 2021 Chingon Award recipient Frank Lima, IAFF General-Secretary Treasurer, who will present the 2022 Chingona Award to honoree Lorena Gonzalez, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the California Labor Federation.

Avance will host its Annual Chingon Award this September at the iconic Plaza De La Raza in Lincoln Heights. Each year, Avance honors individuals that exemplify Latino excellence and community service. Avance proudly announces Mark J Gonzalez, Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, as the 2022 Chingon Award awardee.
As a lifelong resident of Eagle Rock, Mark Gonzalez has dedicated his life to democratic values, from his work on the successful Biden Presidential Campaign, his leadership with LACDP, and his work with non-profits elevating issues for Angeleno families and organized labor. Mark champions issues critical to the Latino Community, such as voter education and registration. For these reasons, Mark is our 2022 Chingon Award honoree.

As you most likely are aware, Avance is now the largest Latino Democratic Club in Los Angeles County and growing. Our mission is to build political power by actively increasing Latino voter registration and civic participation. Avance was formed because, for far too long, the Latino voice had been either unheard or outright ignored, resulting in the Latino community remaining invisible with our issues, challenges, and concerns unaddressed.
