The Los Angeles Communications Center stands in solidarity as we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fellow deputies of Deputy Randy Hoppert from the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. His bravery, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered and honored.

From behind the headset, dispatchers witness the courage of those in the field every day. Today, we mourn alongside you. Please know that your communications family stands with you -- now and always.

The lineup should be about good vibes NOT bad decisions.

Every day, the California Highway Patrol answers calls that started with one distracted or an impaired choice.

This month, make the decision to drive focused, plan ahead and look out for each other.

Distracted & impaired driving changes lives in seconds. The California Highway Patrol's dispatchers and officers are there when it does.

If you're looking for a career with purpose, responsibility and real impact-- this is it.

🚨 Applying for Public Safety Dispatcher/Operator? START HERE 👇

We’ve noticed some confusion in the application process, so here’s a quick step-by-step guide to get you on the right track:

1️⃣ Visit the CalCareers website 🌐
2️⃣ Click **“Exam/Assessment Search”** 🔍
3️⃣ In the keyword section, type:
👉 *Public Safety Dispatcher* OR *Public Safety Operator*
4️⃣ Click **“View Exam Posting”** 📄
5️⃣ Click **“Apply Now”** ✅

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
If this is your FIRST time applying, you MUST apply for the **EXAM first** — not the job posting.

👀 What to look for:
✅ **EX- # # # # = Exam Code (CORRECT starting point)**
❌ **JC- # # # # # # = Job Code (comes AFTER you pass the exam)**

Example:
✔️ EX-4903
❌ JC-512353

➡️ Once you pass the exam and receive eligibility, THEN you can apply to open positions.
