The District Attorney filed charges today against Dominic Barsetti, a San Francisco deputy sheriff, for battery, vandalism and threatening guests at a potluck last Thursday in Parkmerced.
Barsetti, 32, will be arraigned Wednesday morning.
He was arrested last Thursday after police received a call about a man who was threatening to shoot people during a party.
Barsetti was off duty at the time of the incident. He allegedly sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman at the gathering by “grabbing her inappropriately and pulling her hair,” the DA’s press release said.
When confronted by others at the party, Barsetti allegedly picked up a guitar and swung it around, damaging items in the apartment...

MADISON, Wis. — An attorney representing the families of three people who died at the hands of a former Wisconsin police officer filed another federal lawsuit against him Wednesday, saying his department taught him to view Black people as dangerous.
The lawsuit alleges that former Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah violated Jay Anderson’s constitutional rights when he fatally shot Anderson after discovering him sleeping in a park after hours in 2016.
According to the lawsuit, Anderson followed all of Mensah’s commands but Mensah still considered him a threat because he was Black.
Mensah, who is Black, said Anderson was reaching for a gun, and a county prosecutor declined to bring charges in the case...

In a fitting tribute to Juneteenth, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a sweeping law enforcement reform bill on Friday that marks one of the most significant changes to policing amidst the protests over the brutal killing of George Floyd.
Among the new law’s many reforms, which include banning chokeholds and the use of deadly force for nonviolent offenses, the Enhance Law Enforcement Integrity Act (SB20-217) allows plaintiffs to bypass “qualified immunity,” one of the biggest barriers to holding government agents accountable in court.
Ever since Congress enacted the Civil Rights Act of 1871 to combat the Ku Klux Klan, people who have had their rights violated by local and state government officials could sue them for damages in federal court...

Police claimed that they told Rice to drop the weapon - but instead of dropping it he pointed it at police.
The police confirmed that the gun was a toy after Rice had been shot dead.
The police officer who fired the fatal shots was sacked three years later for lying on his job application form.
In December 2020, the Justice Department said it was closing its investigation into the case as there was not enough evidence to bring federal criminal charges.
