The Commission on Community and Family Services was joined by Deputy Mayor Brenda Shockley at yesterday's April meeting. The Deputy Mayor and Commission President Benjamin Torres opened the meeting by mourning the loss and honoring the legacy of Nipsey Hussle.

In the words of our Commission President, "Nipsey Hussle was making a significant economic and personal transformation and impact. I didn't know him as a rapper, I knew him as an economic development specialist. He was the epitome of what we try to represent here at CCFS. When the most marginalized lead and are at the center of discussion, transformation of self and innovation in community can happen...Through his music and love for technology, he was able to begin a transformation of other young men and women to understand their future role in community self-determination and to be a part of the process of liberation...It is a serious day of mourning in our community."
