▹Latinos are a growing, youthful, and highly productive cohort that will drive future US economic and population growth—and Latino-owned businesses (LOBs) are an overlooked investment opportunity.
▹Despite their enormous importance to the economy, LOBs are underfunded across all sources of capital.
▹This is a clear opportunity for equity investors and LOBs. LOBs need equity investment so that they can direct cash flow to growth. Angels, venture capital, private equity, and other equity sources can serve this unmet need with an expectation of high returns.
▹LOBs appear to struggle with a “scale wall” at around $1 million in revenue, at which point high-cost debt and a lack of equity investments may pose significant challenges in reinvesting cash to scale.
▹LOBs are not monolithic: Six distinct segments need equitable evaluations, new products, and enhanced awareness of funding options, offering opportunities for institutional investors of all types.

Tens of millions of Latinos are part of the American middle class and they make important contributions to American society and the U.S. economy. Since 1990, the percent of Latinos who have earned a bachelor’s degree has about doubled. An increasing number are earning professional degrees and taking on leadership roles in different fields. According to Brookings, twenty-two percent of the American middle-class is Hispanic.1
However, Latinos continue to face economic challenges. They experience higher rates of unemployment than the population as a whole. Their median household income is only roughly three-quarters that of whites. Hispanic women earn only 54 cents for every dollar earned by white men. The median net worth of Hispanic households in 2016 was only one eighth of the net worth of white households. Hispanics are 1.7 times more likely than whites to live in poverty.

“Our ability to overcome the
barriers of racism and sexism, while starting businesses, working essential jobs and protecting our families is a demonstration of our determination and perseverance. Latinas are
overwhelmingly leading and calling for change to ensure their families and communities are
