LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LAX)
TEMPORARY AIR TRAFFIC FLOW CHANGES
March 2 and 3, 2017
12 AM – 6:30 AM

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct testing on March 2 and 3, 2017 to validate certain flight procedures that are part of the Southern California Metroplex project to ensure that the procedures function as intended. These tests will require LAX to temporarily change air traffic flow during these two nights as follows:

On Thursday, March 2, from 12 AM to 6:30 AM, LAX will deviate from the usual Over-Ocean Operations and remain in Westerly Operations (aircraft arriving and departing westbound) to accommodate the FAA testing of Metroplex procedures.

On Friday, March 3, LAX will conduct Over-Ocean Operations from 12 AM to 2 AM, and then transition to Easterly Operations (aircraft arriving and departing eastbound) from 2 AM to 6:30 AM for the FAA’s testing.

LAX normally operates in Over-Ocean Operations from 12 AM to 6:30 AM, wherein aircraft arrive and depart over the ocean to minimize noise disturbance to the communities directly east of the airport. However, the FAA’s procedure validation testing needs to be performed during the slowest traffic times in the early morning hours and therefore requires the airport to temporarily deviate from the Over-Ocean configuration. Persons living near the airport may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and associated noise during these test periods.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this special circumstance.

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LAX)
TEMPORARY NORTH COMPLEX RUNWAY 24L/6R CLOSURES
February 16th and 17th

LAX will temporarily close the north inboard runway 24L/6R this Thursday and Friday, February 16th and 17th, 2017 for approximately 5 hours from 1 AM to 6 AM each night. These runway closures are necessary to facilitate environmental work near the runway area.

Persons living near LAX may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and noise during these temporary runway closures. When the north inboard runway (24L/6R) temporarily closes during these periods, more aircraft are expected to use the north outboard runway (24R/6L) for departure and arrival operations. In addition, some aircraft operations are expected to shift from the north to the south runway complex. The FAA will continue to conduct Over-Ocean Operations at LAX during these closures between midnight and 6:30 A.M. if weather and other operational conditions permit.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during these temporary runway closures.
