One year ago, we launched a program built on a simple belief: children thrive when their whole family is supported.
Our Family Engagement Program provides holistic, bilingual support to children ages 3-5, their parents, caregivers, and siblings, and now it's expanding to Angeles Mesa.
"Now that we're a year in, I feel so happy โ it makes me emotional. Knowing the amazing work this team is doing and seeing the impact on families โ that's why I want to come to work every day." โ Nicole Cherry, LCSW, Clinical Manager
This is just one of the programs we're proud to provide that support women and their families. You can find others here: https://www.ywcagla.org/programs

Big news... ๐
We're proud to announce that we've been selected as one of only seven YWCA associations nationwide to serve as a first-year Thought Partner in YWCA USA's Youth Leadership in Action Initiative, supported by a $100,000 grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc.
We will have a seat at the table in shaping a youth-led initiative that will reach more than 190 YWCA associations across the country. We're honored to bring the voices of the young people in Los Angeles to that national conversation.
"Youth thrive when they are given a voice to lead, create and help shape their future."
Barbara Harper, Senior Program Administrator
Thank you to Lilly Endowment for making this possible!

Strong communities are built when people look out for one another. During , we affirm our commitment to creating spaces where every person is welcomed, valued, and safe, including our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Respect and belonging make us stronger together.

๐ When our whole team comes together, good things tend to happen.
Last month, we held our Quarterly pulse, an all-hands meeting to connect, align, and keep moving forward together. We gathered in person at our Angeles Mesa location and virtually via Zoom, sharing space in a room where every voice matters.
A connected team means stronger communities. ๐

We want to hear from you!
Empowerment means something different to everyone. For some, it's financial independence. For others, it's finding their voice, feeling safe, or simply knowing they're not alone.
What does empowerment mean to you? Share in the comments below. Your words might inspire someone who needs to hear them today. ๐งก

Big things are in motion for Compton!
Last month, YWCA Greater Los Angeles CEO Lori Carmona, Director of Survivor Empowerment Services Dachelle Kendrick, and Director of Economic Advancement Eric Walker sat down with Compton Mayor Emma Sharif to discuss expanding our services within the city, with a focus on economic advancement and survivor empowerment.
This conversation is the beginning of something meaningful. We are committed to bringing the full weight of our programs and expertise to the Compton community, and we're grateful to Mayor Sharif for her time, vision, and commitment to the people she serves.
Stay tuned. ๐งก

Happy (belated) Earth Day from our Little Stars! โญ๏ธ
On April 22nd, our Little Stars classroom at Union Pacific celebrated Earth Day in the most beautiful way. Little hands mixed watercolor onto coffee filters to create their very own Earths. Then, they rolled up their sleeves and worked alongside their teacher to put together a fresh fruit and vegetable salad.
Creativity, teamwork, and a little love for our planet. That's Earth Day in our classroom. ๐ฑ๐๐

Honoring Farm Workers Day with our littlest learners at Angeles Mesa!
This Farm Workers Day, our students learned some of the most important lessons a child can receive: where their food comes from, the hard and essential work of farm workers, and why gratitude and kindness matter.
Children explored what it means to be thankful for the people who grow the food on our tables, and why showing compassion to everyone, no matter their job, is one of the most powerful things we can do.
We capped off the day with a visit to our very own garden, where little hands picked fresh tomatoes right from the vine, touching, smelling, and tasting the fruits of farm workers' labor firsthand. ๐ฑ
