November 17th is National Take a Hike Day--a day that encourages everyone to go outside and explore the trails! Hiking not only gives us an opportunity to experience Nature and the great outdoors, it also helps us get our bodies moving. Not only does hiking get our hearts pumping and our muscles moving, being outside is also good for our minds. And hiking can burn 400-550 calories per hour--another excellent reason to hit the trails!

October 15th is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day--a day that encourages prevention, testing, and open discussions related to HIV and AIDS within the Latino community.
In the Lincoln Heights community, there is an AIDS monument dedicated to loved ones located right here in Lincoln Park.
"The Wall-Las Memorias Project (TWLMP) was created with the mindset of bringing HIV/AIDS awareness to the Latino community. The movement began when founder, Richard Zaldivar was confronted with the news of a close friend testing positive for HIV. After observing the reaction and guilt in his friend, Richard was determined to create an avenue of dialogue dedicated to educating both his community and the rest of the world about HIV/AIDS prevention." --www.thewalllasmemorias.org
The monument is currently under renovations and the unveiling of the Wall Las Memorias AIDS Monument Rededication Ceremony will take place on World AIDS Day on December 1, 2021 at 6:30pm.
