The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles proudly promoted Sri Lanka’s trade and tourism potential at the 2026 World Trade Week, hosted by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce at the JW Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles on 27 May 2026.
The event brought together business leaders, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and international trade representatives, providing an excellent platform to showcase Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for trade, investment, and tourism.
The Consulate highlighted Sri Lanka’s unique opportunities in sectors including tourism, Ceylon tea, handicrafts, spices, and other exports, while strengthening connections with the business community in Los Angeles and beyond.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, together with the Sri Lanka Tea Board, successfully hosted a special Ceylon Tea Tasting Session on 21 May 2026 to commemorate International Tea Day.
The event brought together tea importers, diplomats, media representatives, and tea enthusiasts to celebrate the rich heritage, exceptional quality, and global excellence of Ceylon Tea.
The programme featured insightful presentations, engaging video screenings, and an interactive tea tasting experience showcasing the uniqueness, sustainability, and diversity of Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea industry.
The event commenced with welcome remarks by Consul General Ms. Achini Perera, who highlighted the significance of International Tea Day and the vital contribution of the Sri Lankan tea industry to the country’s economy, culture, and international trade. She also emphasized Sri Lanka’s longstanding reputation for producing premium-quality tea through sustainable and ethical practices.
Minister (Commerce) Ms. Rekha Mallikarachchi delivered a comprehensive presentation on Ceylon Tea, exploring its rich history, distinct characteristics, economic impact, and the unique flavour profiles of Sri Lanka’s seven agro-climatic tea-growing regions.
A highlight of the evening was the interactive tea tasting session conducted by experienced tea planter and tea taster Mr. Pujitha Ubayasiri. Guests enjoyed the distinctive tastes and aromas of teas from across Sri Lanka while learning about tea manufacturing, grading, and artisanal tea production.
The programme also showcased video presentations on tea production processes, artisanal teas, and sustainability initiatives within the Sri Lankan tea industry. Guests had the opportunity to sample a variety of premium and artisanal Ceylon Teas while networking with industry representatives and fellow tea lovers.
The event successfully promoted awareness of authentic Ceylon Tea and further strengthened Sri Lanka’s engagement with tea importers and consumers in the United States.
