That's a lot of signs!

Closing the majority of MRCA managed parklands for the duration of the Red Flag Warning requires lots of signs and staff to get them set up!

Signs were distributed by rangers, firefighters, operations, and park staff as 24-hour patrols  and fire suppression resources were strategically placed in the Santa Monica Mountains, Santa Clarita Woodlands, Simi Hills, and Santa Susanas.

The red flag warning is set to expire at 8pm Saturday night, Oct 17th. Read the multi-agency closure agreement at mrca.ca.gov

Is it windy where you are?

A Red Flag Warning is in effect thru Saturday 10/17/26 for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties due to:
1) Low Relative Humidity
2) Dry Fuels (Vegetation), and
3) Strong and Gusty Winds

MRCA managed parklands will remain closed until the red flag warning from National Weather Service expires, as part the established coordinated protocol between National Park Service, California State Parks, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, and Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.

**Not every closed area will be signed or gated.** Visitors should check current conditions with the agency managing their destination before traveling to a park during a red flag warning.

The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority and Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy holds lands that originally and still are inhabited by the Fernandeno Tataviam, Gabrielino Tongva, Ventureno Chumash, Juaneno Acjachemen and other indigenous peoples. We honor and respect their elders and descendants, as they continue their stewardship of these lands and waters.

While MRCA offices are closed for the day in observance, parks and trails are open according to their regularly posted times.

Add them to the list!

MRCA has accepted six undeveloped parcels totaling approximately 1.463-acres of Paradise Hill in Lincoln Heights, City of Los Angeles.

The properties have high ecological value with some California black walnut trees and extensive grassland.

We will continue our efforts to acquire adjacent and nearby parcels to maximize protecting contiguous open space.

MRCA will begin trail repairs on the Hastain Trail at Franklin Canyon Park starting Wednesday, October 7, 2026. During work hours, portions of the trail may be closed, but trails will remain fully open after work hours and on weekends. Trail users can also access the southern entrance of Hastain Trail but may need to turn around if a section is closed. Work will take place for six weeks. We thank you for your patience as we make the trails safer and more sustainable.
