Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s meeting. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, February 26th.

The new Griffith Park Visitor’s Center is officially open to the public. The grand opening was this past weekend and could not have been possible without the likes of RAPs own Tracy James and Stefanie Smith among countless others. A huge thanks to those who tirelessly worked on this over the last year.

To provide some additional insight into how our board works, when Tracy brought this to our attention in February 2025, we formed an Ad Hoc Committee whose sole focus was the Visitor’s Center. Board members Amy, Sarah, Aaron, and Cristian immediately sprung into action doing whatever they could to help guide and assist Tracy to realize her vision. The rest, as they say, is history.

Did you know that Griffith Park has more than two marathons’ worth of trails?

Now you can experience all 50+ miles of official trails in the Park in 15 segments that offer options for beginners and more experienced hikers.

The Griffith Park Explorer (GP-eX) is a free system of hikes that describes trail history, local flora and fauna, geology, and other insights that bring the Park to life. Launched on April 19 at an Earth Day event in the Park, GP-eX is fun, easy to use and informative.

A printable map, turn-by-turn directions and links to AllTrails routes are available at friendsofgriffithpark.org/gp-ex/, which is optimized for use on mobile devices. Make it your goal to hike all 15 before the end of this year!

GPAB will be hosting an emergency meeting this Thursday at 6:30 PM in the Griffith Park Visitor Center. We will have representatives from numerous city agencies and will be taking public comment. Agenda in profile. We hope you can join us.

From our friends at RAP: “The Park Rangers and Park Maintenance are closing Upper Old Zoo Trail, between Fern Canyon and Bill Eckert Trail. Barricades with ''Trail Closed'' signs are being placed now. There is significant erosion on this trail. An underground pipe was damaged and there is nothing holding up the ground. More rain could compromise the trail even more. Any heavy impact could cause a collapse. This is important information for equestrians as the weight of a horse could cause a collapse. There is no timeline at the moment on when the trail will reopen but we will keep you updated.”
