A pool from my last two posts. The Dentist Pool in Los Angeles was also featured on the cover and center spread of a Brazilian skate magazine from the late ’80s/early ’90s.

SKATIN’ was the name of the mag, and these photos of Ricky Styles on the cover and Christian Hosoi in the center spread were shot by Brazilian photographer Daniel Bourqui.

On my last post, Jef Hartsel skates two pools in his video part from 1989. Fast forward 11 years and I got a chance to skate the same pool in 2001.

We called it the Dentist Pool. Somewhere in Los Angeles.

Pretty crazy to think that 11 years later, I was skating the same pool I watched Jeff skate in that video.

37 years later and Jef Hartsel s part in Rubbish Heap (1989) still inspires me more and more. Everything he skates is exactly what I like to skate to this day — slappy curbs, DTLA brick volcanoes, backyard pools and just making the streets work. His sick style and the soundtrack are just as good today as they were back then. Some things never really change.

My first backyard pool grind captured on film. Bel Air, Los Angeles, 2001.

I’d already grinded other pools, like Jungle Bowl and Jet Inn, but this was the first one caught on film by The Wolf.

I was riding my Eric Dressen deck, and I still have that same board sitting here with me.
