What a joy it was to have Dr. Jemar Tisby speak in our Faith and Artistic Development class on Thursday! He brought his expertise as a historian, theologian, and storyteller to speak to our students about the power of transformational films.

Then later that night, we got to see a transformation film and help put on an incredible premiere for Lauren Vernea’s documentary, Jesus Was a Migrant. Huge shout our students who helped set up the red carpet, collect tickets, sell merch, run tech, and get a behind the scenes peak at what all goes into coordinating a successful premiere!

When the U.S. shut off the asylum appointment system in January 2025, approximately 270,000 migrants were left with no legal pathway forward. The people who celebrated that decision shared the same faith as the people who showed up at the border to protest it.

That’s the question Jesus Was a Migrant refuses to let go of. World premiere April 9 at Lumiere Cinema in Los Angeles. Tickets are $10 — link in bio.

LAFSC thrilled to play a hand in premiering this documentary film by Lauren Vernea and Dr. Jemar Tisby, produced by Tisby Studios in collaboration with FaithWorks. We want to invite out all of our local alumni to a special premiere screening of the doc and Q&A with the filmmakers! Link in our bio for tickets!
