Happy 105th Birthday today to our very own Cahuenga Branch - Los Angeles Public Library! Our library opened on this very day - December 4 - back in 1916, one of six Los Angeles Public Library branches funded and built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as a Los Angeles City Historic-Cultural Landmark. It has been featured in numerous movies and television shows, and has been an important institution for the East Hollywood and western Silver Lake communities for generations. Happy 105, Cahuenga! 🎂

We regretfully announce the passing of our longtime member, Christine Ramsey, who ran our twice-monthly Book Sale and served as our treasurer.
Born in Hackney, London, England on January 11, 1937, she survived the bombing of her hometown as a young girl during World War II. She moved to the United States in 1961 and settled here in the East Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles in 1964 where she had lived and been a dedicated patron of the Cahuenga Branch - Los Angeles Public Library ever since. She enjoyed simple things like going out for breakfast, quilting and conversation, but her biggest affinity was reading books. Christine has faithfully and tirelessly volunteered at the Cahuenga Branch Library for the past 17-plus years, running our twice-monthly Book Sale and served as treasurer of the Friends of Cahuenga Library. She suffered a stroke in August of this year and passed away due to complications on August 22, 2021 at the age of 84. She is survived by a daughter and two sisters.
We, along with our library’s staff and patrons, will miss her friendly and chatty demeanor, her unyielding love of books and her dedication to the Cahuenga Branch Library.

Our 1st Quarter meeting for 2020, originally scheduled for this Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m. has been postponed out of precaution regarding the Coronavirus.
Though Los Angeles is NOT a Community Spread area (only 20 cases reported in L.A. County (pop: 10 million) as of Mar 11), we do want to take extra precaution as some of our members are part of the population who can potentially develop the more serious cases of the disease. The meeting is tentatively re-scheduled for Saturday April 11, pending the situation of the outbreak then.
Our regular twice-monthly Book Sale will still go on this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make sure to use the restrooms next to our Book Store room to wash your hands, and if you don't feel well for whatever reason (We are still in the regular Flu season), please stay at home and take some rest. We just want everyone to stay healthy!
