We are excited to announce that Himalia has started a Chess Club on Thursday's during after-school. Mr. Langworthy is leading this club and has taken the responsibility of educating the scholars in the "Game of Kings". We are excited to see the scholar's growth within the game, and we soon hope to be able to host an In-house tournament where they can put their new game skills to the test.

El Sr. Langworthy dirige este club y ha asumido la responsabilidad de educar a los estudiantes en el "Juego de Reyes". Isana Himalia is proud to announce its partnership with South Central LAMP and the St. Francis Food Pantry to help out with a weekly food distribution to the community. Mr. Gallegos and other Himalia staff will be at LAMP on Wednesday's from 10:30am-12:00pm helping out with produce and meal distributions.

Isana Himalia se enorgullece de anunciar su asociación con South Central LAMP y la despensa de alimentos de St. Francis para ayudar con una distribución semanal de alimentos a la comunidad. ABC7 presents the 39th Annual Kingdom Day Parade on Jan. 15, celebrating the dream and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This multi-cultural extravaganza is the nation's largest and longest running Kingdom Day celebration. The theme this year is "Can't Stop, Won't Stop, Going to the Promised Land."

Every year, thousands of people line the parade route along Martin Luther King and Crenshaw boulevards to see the marching bands, colorful floats, dramatic drumlines, dynamic dancers, and there are always a few surprises too!

If you can't be there in person, you can watch the exclusive coverage of the Kingdom Day parade on ABC7 starting Monday, January 15 at 11 a.m.

We want to thank all of our Himalia parents for their support in helping make yesterday’s “The Little Mermaid Jr” showcase a success! Himalia students displayed their artistic ability in singing, acting, dancing and helping behind the scenes. This shows how talented our community truly is. A big thank you to our community partners that came to support our show, and our students.

Lastly, none of this would be possible without the help and guidance from the entire VAPA department. They worked tirelessly for many months, planing, designing, working on choreography, acting and vocal lessons with the students.

We are extremely proud of the entire Himalia community, and can’t wait to show you what we got coming up for the next showcase.

¡Queremos agradecer a todos nuestros padres de Himalia por su apoyo para ayudar a que la exhibición de “La Sirenita Jr” de ayer fuera un éxito! Los estudiantes de Himalia demostraron su habilidad artística cantando, actuando, bailando y ayudando detrás de escena. Esto demuestra cuán talentosa es realmente nuestra comunidad. Dear ISANA Families:

The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close all ISANA campuses tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 21. This includes regular school and our after school programs.

The City of Los Angeles has declared a state of emergency due to the unprecedented nature of Tropical Storm Hilary. All LAUSD schools will also be closed tomorrow. Here is a link from the City of Los Angeles for more information and resources related to the storm.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause for families. However, we want to ensure the safety of all, especially for those that may be at risk traveling to school.

We are closely monitoring the progress of the storm and expect to resume classes on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
