🇧🇪 Today in our Discovering Belgium series, we’re heading to the beautiful city of Dinant!

🏰 Dramatically perched above the city, the Citadel of Dinant towers over the Meuse River from the top of steep limestone cliffs. Accessible via a steep staircase of over 400 steps or by cable car, it rewards visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the river valley and the colorful houses below.

Originally fortified in the Middle Ages, the site has long been a strategic military stronghold due to its commanding position along the Meuse. It later played a significant role during World War I, when fierce fighting took place in and around Dinant in 1914.

🎷 Dinant is also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. The city celebrates its most famous son with colorful saxophone sculptures along the riverbanks and a dedicated museum, making music an integral part of its identity.

🍪 A true local specialty, the famous Couques de Dinant are as unique as the town itself. These hard honey biscuits, often shaped into intricate designs, are both a culinary tradition and a symbol of Dinant’s heritage.

🌿 Just down the river, the stunning Château de Freÿr welcomes visitors with its elegant Renaissance architecture, terraced gardens, and centuries‑old orange trees. Nestled between cliffs and the Meuse, it offers a peaceful and refined escape into Belgium’s aristocratic past.

🚶 Strolling along the Meuse riverbanks in Dinant, with views of colorful houses, passing boats, and dramatic cliffs, is an experience that perfectly blends history, nature, and charm.

Whether you’re exploring a cliff‑top citadel, celebrating musical heritage, tasting local delicacies, or discovering nearby castles, Dinant reveals Belgium at its most picturesque and unforgettable.

🇧🇪 Today in our Discovering Belgium series, we’re thrilled to highlight one of the country’s most breathtaking traditions: the Flower Carpet in Brussels.

🌸 We are delighted to share that the next edition will take place from August 13 to August 16, 2026, once again transforming the iconic Grand Place into a vibrant tapestry of color and culture.

🌊 Even more exciting, we are proud to share this year’s design (second picture)!

For the second time since 2016, the Brussels Flower Carpet celebrates its collaboration with Japan through a creation inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai.

This year’s design is by renowned Japanese artist Hiro Sugiyama, who reinterprets Hokusai’s iconic wave through a contemporary lens, blending traditional ukiyo-e aesthetics with modern artistic expression. His “Neo‑Hokusai” vision connects past and present, celebrating both cultural heritage and innovation, while highlighting 160 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan.

What makes the Flower Carpet truly special?
🌼 Since 1971, this ephemeral masterpiece has showcased Belgium’s artistic spirit and floral expertise, using over half a million begonias selected for their vivid colors and resilience.
🌼 More than 100 dedicated volunteers come together to assemble the carpet in just a few hours.
🌼 The installation spans 1,600 square meters across the Grand Place.
🌼 Music, light shows, and cultural programming bring the entire square to life.

👏 Our sincere thanks to the organizers for their outstanding work in bringing this world-renowned event to life, as well as to the many volunteers whose passion and dedication make it possible each time.

✨ Start planning your trip now to experience this unique celebration of Belgian creativity and international cultural exchange.
