The event will be held at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center’s outdoor amphitheater located at 9 Truman St. in Irvine. Doors will open at 10:30am, and the event will begin promptly at 11:00am. This event will bring together members of our community to observe AAPI Heritage Month, discuss ways to empower our communities, and hear ideas from the local leaders who work tirelessly to make a difference in Orange County.

The annual Los Angeles Day of Remembrance commemorates the signing of Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Executive Order 9066 authorized the U.S. military to remove persons of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast and set into motion their incarceration in concentration camps during World War II.
OCA-Greater Los Angeles Chapter has been a member of the DOR Committee for more than decade, and within recent years featured LAvsHATE promotional and resource materials for their tabling.
This year’s theme, “The Power of Action: Silence Today, Injustice Tomorrow,” highlighted the current climate where not only Japanese American history, but the cultural heritage of all communities of color, are under threat of erasure or censorship.
Thanks to Board Vice President Lisa Akiyama and Member-at-Large Christopher Nakatsuka for representing OCA-GLA at the table offering LAvsHATE takeaway items and information.
