During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we had the chance to spend time with 911 dispatchers, and honestly, it puts a lot into perspective.
You hear about what they do, you see it portrayed in movies and shows, but being there is different.
Some of our staff were able to sit in and listen to live calls, both non-emergency and emergency. That experience really stayed with us. We found ourselves talking about it after, reflecting on what we heard and how much these moments rely on the person on the other end of the line.
You get a glimpse of what frontline employees carry every day. The pace, the pressure, and the way they show up for people when it matters most. It’s not always visible, but it makes a difference.
At the Employees Club, we talk about celebrating, honoring, and thanking public service employees. Experiences like this remind us why that matters and who we’re really doing it for.
Really grateful we got to see it up close, and a big thank you to the LAPD Communications team for giving us the opportunity.
