On Wednesday, Bet Tzedek was proud to host over 200 professionals at our 10th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Event — From Hidden Harm to Community Action — marking a decade of bringing together leaders for a day of interactive learning and resource connection to strengthen our community's collective response to prevent and combat elder abuse.

This year's event featured three segments focused on post-disaster recovery challenges, missed behavioral health needs, and trusted caregiver-to-elder mistreatment.

Here are some photos of our staff, including Bertha Sanchez Hayden, Dani Kaiserman, and Alisa Anderson, who organized the event! We also highlight Commissioner Gil Garcetti, who shared California's Little Hoover Commission's latest report "A California Strategy to Stop Financial Scams," offering an actionable framework to address this threat.

Thank you to all those who worked, presented, and attended the event, which was a huge success!

The FIFA World Cup begins in less than a week, and Los Angeles is buzzing with anticipation. Global sports have a unique ability to bring people together across cultures, and this tournament will be no exception.

At the same time, major international events also raise important questions about labor conditions and human rights, especially for migrant and immigrant workers who help make them possible. Reports of unsafe conditions, wage violations, and immigration-enforcement fears, as well as worries about human trafficking, highlight the need for accountability and protections.

That’s where Bet Tzedek steps in. Reach out here for help with worker safety and exploitation: https://bettzedek.org/get-help/

Did you know California relies on immigrant workers in caregiving at significantly higher rates than the rest of the country? Immigrants make up nearly half of California’s direct care workforce, compared to the national average of 28%.

From caring for older adults and people with disabilities to supporting families, immigrant workers are at the heart of California’s long-term care system.

This month, we honor the strength and dedication of immigrants whose labor sustains our communities.

Yesterday marked Global Day of Parents and International Children’s Day is on June 14th. These days offer a moment to reflect on the care, commitment, and sacrifice that flow through families, and on children growing and learning in safe, supportive environments.

At Bet Tzedek, we honor parents and children in a very real way by guiding them through complex legal issues and working to protect their rights and keep them together.

Care is not a burden. Care is infrastructure. Care is honest labor. Care is love. Investing in caregiving means investing in our communities — because one day, we will all give care, need care, or both.

We are proud to partner with Caring Across Generations in building a future where care is recognized, respected, and resourced.
