Happy Saturday everyone. We’re still suffering an embarrassment of book riches — children’s books especially. This is the last week I’ll leave them out on the table before donating to Goodwill. I just don’t have the space to maintain it all.
Also, spent the morning making envelopes for seeds! I’ll have California Poppy, Narrow-Leaf Milkweed, peas, little thumb carrots, and corn seeds out. Take a seed pack, leave a seed packet.

Hey folks!
You have all done such a wonderful job contributing to the Little Free Library that we need to expand. I was thinking of adding 1-2 Mini-Sheds onto the Library, and I'd love ideas for how to organize.
We get a lot of textbooks (near USC and all) and a ton of kid visitors, so I stay stocked with kids books of all ages. My thought is that the kids books would get their own dedicated shed, and the textbooks and tchotchkes can share their own additional shed. But I'm open to other ideas. Drop ideas here or PM me.
And, if you'd like to contribute to the add-on project, PM me for that, too!

National Wildlife Federation Certifies New Wildlife Habitat Garden at Jefferson Park Little Free Library
Media Contact: Jessica Ordóñez-Lancet, National Wildlife Federation, 202-797-6809, [email protected]
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF), America’s largest wildlife conservation and education organization, is pleased that the Jefferson Park Little Free Library in Los Angeles, California has successfully created a Certified Wildlife Habitat® through its Garden for Wildlife™ program.
NWF celebrates this effort to create a garden that supports birds, butterflies, bees, frogs and other local wildlife. Every Certified Wildlife Habitat garden provides natural sources of food, water, cover and places to raise young and is maintained in a sustainable way that incorporates native plants, conserves water and doesn’t rely on pesticides.
Celebrating over 45 years, the Garden for Wildlife movement has recognized over 227,000 Certified Wildlife Habitat gardens across the United States to date, encompassing more than 2.5 million acres that support wildlife locally. Backyards, urban gardens, school grounds, businesses, places of worship, campuses, parks, farms, zoos and community landscapes can all be recognized as wildlife habitats through the program.
“Anyone, anywhere can restore wildlife habitat right in their own yards and communities,” said NWF naturalist David Mizejewski. “Whether you garden in a suburban yard, an urban area or a rural plot of land, you can make a difference for local wildlife. Creating a Certified Wildlife Habitat garden is fun, easy and makes a real difference for neighborhood wildlife. It’s the perfect grassroots way to think globally and act locally and help birds, butterflies, bees and other wildlife,” he added.
Many of NWF’s state affiliate organizations are partners in the Garden for Wildlife Movement. Habitats in partnering states have national and state certification.
Every Certified Wildlife Habitat garden is now also part of the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge, a national effort to create a million gardens that provide habitat for declining pollinator insects such butterflies and bees.
Participants who have their wildlife habitat garden certified receive a personalized certificate with a unique habitat number, a one-year membership to NWF with a subscription to National Wildlife magazine, a subscription to the Garden for Wildlife e-newsletter, a 10 percent discount to National Wildlife catalog, and the exclusive right to post a Certified Wildlife Habitat yard sign.
For more information on NWF’s Garden for Wildlife movement and how to qualify to have a garden
space recognized as a Certified Wildlife Habitat, visit https://www.nwf.org/garden or call 1-800-822-9919.

It's been a good week at the Jefferson Park Little Free Library. In COVID times, I work from home most of the time, and my home office faces the LIbrary.
This week, I watched many folks browsing, taking, and leaving books. The two that stuck with me were the woman and a young boy came by, browsed the selections, and sat at the bench to read for a few moments before going about their day. The boy skipped to the library and skipped away with a book. The next day, a grandmother stopped by and thanked me for the library, mentioning that her grandson loved reading and the library kept him in books. It happens that my daughter is the same age as her grandson, and we gifted a copy of Diary of Wimpy Kid out of my kiddo's personal stash.
This library gives me a great deal of joy every day, in large part because all of you. Thank you for contributing to the magic, and please, if you're open to it, feel free to wave "hi" next time you drop by!
