Did you know that we can preserve beautiful single family homes AND address the housing and affordability crisis at the same time? Steps on St. Andrews, which broke ground today, is taking a traditional craftsman home and converting it into a 20-unit building to house veterans experiencing homelessness.
Holos was honored to celebrate the groundbreaking at Steps with Councilwoman Heather Hutt, Todd Fabian of the National Equity Fund, and Eric Claros, Director of LAHD Innovation Strategies Division.

The Holos team celebrated the grand opening of Isla Intersections, our most innovative site to date, on June 15th, 2024! We were honored to be joined by Mayor Karen Bass, Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Chairman, CEO and President of The Annenberg Foundation Wallis Annenberg, for this grand opening. This event marked the achievement of reaching completion on 54 modular, strategically arranged apartments built with shipping containers in a formerly undeveloped, city-owned lot located off the intersection of the 110 and 105, complete with a grey water system and a “Living Lung” to help with noise and air pollution.
We are grateful for the support from our partners in reaching this momentous milestone: American Family Housing, Councilmember Harris-Dawson, Mayor Karen Bass, Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA], Geis Construction, Primus Building Solutions, KeyBank, Enterprise Community Partners, the Los Angeles Housing Department, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and more. We could not have built Isla without your support.

Holos Communities broke ground with city officials and funders on the future home for Loma Verde on May 16. With 18 units in a 4,500 single family lot, Loma Verde will set an example on how to bring density in the nooks and crannies of the City of Los Angeles. This site represents a joint effort between Restore Neighborhoods LA, Holos Communities and Genesis L.A., showcasing how developers and community development financial institutions can adapt to a changing landscape to create housing in the wake of the pandemic and inflation.
Thanks to our funders and speakers that joined us - Jenna Hornstock, Hon AIA, Senior Advisor for Housing for Mayor Karen Bass, Michael Batistick, Senior Homelessness Deputy for Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, Council District 13 Councilmember, Tom De Simone, Genesis LA President & CEO, and John Perfitt, Restore Neighborhoods Los Angeles Executive Director.

“’This project challenges the restrictively zoned single-story residential suburban track model that revolves around the automobile and contributes so much to LA’s housing crisis,’ says Ahumada. ‘And when addressing this crisis, of which homelessness is a very visible part, it’s impossible not to talk about global warming and social equity.’”
