My AB 49, a bill that would protect immigrant children from actions by U.S. immigration enforcement officers who enter school sites, passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. It is now in the Senate Appropriations.
The bill would prohibit schools from allowing immigration enforcement officers to enter a school site without providing valid identification, a written statement of purpose, a valid judicial warrant, a court order, or claims of exigent circumstances necessitating immediate action.
All children have a constitutional right to attend public schools, regardless of immigration status.
