Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles

The Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles wants to give a big shout-out to the Desert of California Chapter of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S., Inc. for their amazing generosity and the wonderful time they spent with us! Recently, they visited our home and hosted a fun-filled bingo game that our residents absolutely loved. Everyone had such a great time, especially enjoying the awesome prizes they brought along. Thank you for bringing such bright smiles to our faces!

Our Brush Warriors are well-known for their awesome smiles, kind hearts, and nonstop positivity. We recently got a chance to hang out with a few of them before class, and it was such a boost of energy! A big shoutout to Mayee Salgado Futterman for all the amazing work you do! Our residents have a blast in our art classes, and we love watching them enjoy it too.

We remember the fallen by honoring the bonds they shared with those who served beside them. Comrades, brothers, and sisters in arms. Their legacy lives on through every life they touched and every freedom they helped protect.

Yesterday, our community came together to celebrate the lives of six extraordinary individuals: George Stiehl (Navy), Alan Boggs (Marines), John Jeffrey (Army), William Burke (Air Force), John Mancilla (Marines), and Norman Weiner (Coast Guard). These brave men exemplified strength and dedication, leaving behind a legacy that continues to motivate us to grow and improve every day.

During this difficult time, the Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles extends its heartfelt condolences to their families and friends. At the Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles, we will remember their contributions and honor their spirit by striving to be the best versions of ourselves every day.

Our residents give us so much life. We learn an incredible amount about the world by listening to them tell their stories. When we receive the opportunity to highlight their artistry or the joy they experience during trips to fun places like Universal Studios Hollywood, it truly feels like an honor. We are so proud to capture our community's stories and build on the long legacy of Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles trailblazers who have come before us.

This week has been a fantastic time for our community as we celebrate Nurses Week and Public Service Recognition Week. Nurses Day was on May 6th, and the day before, we had a really great employee recognition ceremony to celebrate our nurses and some awesome team members who put in so much effort to make the Veterans Home of California - West Los Angeles a wonderful place for our residents. Our Home’s Administrator, Stephanie Weaver, did a fantastic job leading the ceremonies.

When there's a mariachi band in town, of course, it feels like Cinco de Mayo. Thank you for an amazing performance, Mariachi Las Catrinas. Happy Cinco de Mayo and Happy Birthday, Barbara!

Yesterday was a great day for our community! We had a fun barbecue hosted by the DAV California and Dept of CA DAV Auxiliary. These organizations are all about improving the lives of veterans in California, and they really showed their appreciation by treating our residents and staff to some delicious food. Lucky for us, a few of their team members have some serious cooking skills. We are thankful for the way they support our mission!
