Today we honored with three compelling presentations.
First, we were joined by Dr. Fernando Guerra, professor of Political Science and Chicano/a Studies at Loyola Marymount University to talk about the pst, present and future of Latinx political empowerment.
Next, we were joined by Eden Anai Luna, transfeminine non-binary Latine person who serves as the Program Manager for the Los Angeles LGBT Center and is a member of our Transgender Advisory Council.
Eden shared their experiences working with Latine non-binary communities.
Finally, we heard from Rudy Espinoza & Merlin Alvarado of Inclusiv Action for the City about the value of Street Vendors in LA’s economy and for working people.
Merlin, a street vendor for 16 years, shared lived experiences of harassment and struggle.
Thank you to all of our speakers for your testimony and encouragement of our work for justice, peace and empowerment in LA.

“The department also recently expressed support for several recommendations from a Human Relations Commission project that hosted dinners between Black community members, local organization leaders and police officers, one of which called for “continued dialogue and interactive cultural exchange programming for rank and file officers in South Los Angeles” that would create “proximity and mutual understanding between officers and the people they serve” — just like Silva has envisioned.”
The LA City Human Relations Commission was recently cited in an Los Angeles Times story about policing in the Black community - and the realities facing Black officers.

Today we elected a new President of the Human Relations Commission, Commissioner Anthony Mack!
