Showcasing even more California citrus! Lemons from Fresno are available year round as lemons always grow in warm idyllic climates. Aside from the many common cooking and baking uses for lemons they hold a unique place as a fruit as a cleaning agent due to the high citric acid in its juice. They also contain the terpene D-limonene which acts a natural degreaser and solvent and is used in many cleaning products, and adhesive removers.

Check out these granny smith apples, consistently available from Valley. Granny smith apples get their name from their original propagator: the farmer Maria Ann Smith of Australia, nicknamed ‘granny’ for her age and notability in her community. Though granny smith apples are much more tart than many common table apples, it’s this tartness that makes them an exceptional choice for baking, especially apple pies, just like granny used to make.

Jumbo Garlic is a staple commodity at Valley. Originating from central Asia, garlic is known for it’s sulfuric compounds that give it a pungent odor and flavor. In many cultures garlic has been thought to be a key ingredient in medicines and treatments with early Americans even wearing it as necklaces to ward off disease. This heavy association likely lead to it even being viewed as a preventative against vampires, though scientific evidence for any of these claims remains mixed.

Today we’re high lighting Lupe Arechiga, our HR Manager. Lupe has been working at Valley for 18 years and initially started her career in payroll, originally intending to pursue accounting. However as Valley was developing it’s HR department, opportunities arose for Lupe to be promoted into an HR role where she would later go on to become it’s leader, a career decision she is more than happy to have made feeling as though HR’s dynamic list of responsibilities from workers comp, benefits, payroll, training, compliance, recruiting, employee relations, and more, create the kind of daily mixup she wanted to take on. Though she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Lupe credits her HR training to Valley and courses, consultants, lawyers, and conferences Valley arranged for her to learn from. However It is though her dedication to her work and the company that has allowed her great success in her career and in helping the many team members at our company over many years.
