Justice Work Group is a coalition of community members with the purpose of supporting those who have been adversely affected by mass incarceration.

The UCLA Justice Work Group was established in 2014 by a group of graduate students with the goal of creating a space for collaboration and productive discourse around legal system transformation and justice. “The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to take the first steps in transitioning to a rehabilitative, ‘care-first’ model of juvenile justice, a plan expected to ultimately move funding and responsibility out of the probation department and into a new Department of Youth Development by 2025.

The move was based on a set of recommendations laid out in a report titled Youth Justice Reimagined, produced by the county’s Youth Justice Work Group. It calls for reducing the overall size and scope of the juvenile probation system and investing in community-based resources.”

Mark your calendars! Join us for the 10th annual Beyond the Bars Conference where we will continue to convene, connect and build movement work to end mass incarceration and criminalization. As in years past, the conference will be an extended time and place where issues of strategy are discussed, differences debated, mobilization around key issues takes place, and community is built and maintained.
