It’s Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, but we started celebrating in April when Emmy Lam was here. She showed us how easy it is to make Korean rice balls. It’s a common snack in South Korea, and you can use whatever ingredients you have as fillings.

El Día de los niños / El Día de los libros means Children’s Day / Book Day! It celebrates literacy for children of all backgrounds.

And we celebrated a couple weeks ago with Nathalia. Through original songs, she sang about the five senses, seasons, and just having fun. We had tons of colors, bubbles, and dancing.

What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community or something else, you can find your joy at the Los Angeles Public Library.

National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.

In February, we celebrate African American History Month. We have free buttons, made by our teen volunteers, that honor some great African Americans like Martin Luther King, Jr., Dee Dee McNeil, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
