June is National Safety Month.
Whether you’re on the road, at work, or at home, safety starts with the choices we make every day. From buckling up and staying focused behind the wheel to looking out for those around us, small actions can make a big difference.
Join us in making safety a priority this month and all year long.

This holiday weekend, our officers focused on one simple goal: saving lives through seat belt safety.
During the Holiday Enforcement Period, CHP officers issued 2,172 seat belt citations to drivers and passengers who chose not to buckle up. While citations are never the goal, every stop was an opportunity to prevent a tragedy.
Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road. No matter how short the trip is, buckle up every time.
Thank you to everyone who made safety a priority this holiday weekend. Let’s continue working together to keep California roads safe.

A goodnight hug. A phone call home. Family dinners. Weekend plans. The people or pets waiting for you to make it back safely.
A seat belt may seem small, but it can make the difference between life and death in a crash. Before you drive, take a second to protect what matters most.
Buckle up. Every ride. Every time.

A seat belt can be the difference between walking away from a crash and never making it home.
From May 18–31, the California Highway Patrol will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement. Officers will be stopping drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up.
Too many lives are lost each year because someone chose not to wear a seat belt. In a crash, being ejected from a vehicle is often deadly, and airbags alone are not enough to protect you.
Buckle up correctly every trip:
✔️ Shoulder belt across your chest
✔️ Lap belt low across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm

On May 13, 2026, at 12:15 pm, Central Los Angeles Area CHP officers responded to a reported brush fire along the I-10 (Santa Monica Freeway) in the vicinity of Western Avenue. Arson Investigators with the Los Angeles Fire Department along with ATF Agents were conducting a separate investigation at the same location. While on-scene they also observed the active flames and smoke and located two suspects on the right shoulder embankment in the process of burning copper wire over a fire attempting to remove the rubber/plastic coating. Through a collaborative effort between CHP and LAFD, both subjects were booked by CHP for Arson and possession of narcotics. Through these collaborative efforts with our allied agency partners, the CHP is committed to making California’s communities safe.
