Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles
We are a comprehensive network of services that welcomes individuals and families.
A proposed California state budget change could cut aging services funding for Los Angeles County by 12%, threatening programs that many older adults rely on every day.
At Jewish Family Service LA, these services include hot meals, home-delivered meals, transportation, case management, counseling, and opportunities for seniors to stay connected and supported.
Lisa Shuger, JFSLA’s Senior Director of Public Policy, spoke with KNX News about what is at stake: “This is the difference between them being on the streets or being able to stay in their homes.”
For many older adults living on fixed incomes, with limited family support, a meal site may provide their only fresh meal of the day. These are not extras. They are lifelines.
JFSLA is joining aging services organizations across Los Angeles County in urging state lawmakers to protect funding for older adults in our region.
Los Angeles seniors deserve to age with dignity, stability, and care. Grateful to for reporting on this vital story.

Thank you to LAist for covering this important issue. Older Angelenos can play a powerful role in local elections — but access matters.
JFSLA’s Valley Storefront Senior Center became an early voting location this week, helping older Angelenos cast their ballots in a familiar, supportive space. For seniors who face transportation challenges or rely on walkers or wheelchairs, bringing voting closer to where they already gather can make a meaningful difference.
We’re grateful to for spotlighting voting access and the voices of older adults in Los Angeles.

Hunger exists in every community — including ours. This World Hunger Day, JFSLA remains committed to providing food, support, and stability to neighbors in need. Every meal shared is a reminder that care changes lives.
This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor the history of service that helped shape Jewish Los Angeles.
JFSLA began more than 170 years ago as the Hebrew Benevolent Society, founded in 1854. From those early city years to today, JFSLA has grown alongside Los Angeles — adapting to meet changing needs while staying rooted in values of compassion, dignity, and responsibility to one another.
For generations, JFSLA has represented all Los Angeles residents through social services and action: caring for individuals and families, welcoming newcomers, supporting older adults, strengthening families, and serving people of all backgrounds across Los Angeles.
Our history is still alive in the work we do every day.
