On May 29, Consul General Kosei Murota visited the Port of Los Angeles and met with Executive Director Gene Seroka to learn more about the port’s operations and discuss areas to strengthen ties between Japan and the Port of LA, including in cybersecurity and supply chain resilience.

Japan is one of the Port of Los Angeles’ top trading partners, with trade volume totaling approximately $48 billion in 2025. The Port of LA also has Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the Port of Nagoya, Port of Tokyo, and Port of Yokohama to create green shipping corridors. Japanese companies are contributing to the decarbonization of port operations through technology and other innovative solutions.

The Port of LA is a global leader in cybersecurity and was the first seaport in the world to establish a Cyber Resilience Center, which is an automated port community solution.

Thank you for hosting us and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to promote secure, sustainable, and resilient maritime trade.

Consul General Murota was invited to the opening night of the exhibition "Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind" at the Broad Museum.

Founding Director and President, Joanne Heyler, welcomed Consul General Murota to this first solo exhibition of the Japanese artist, Yoko Ono, in Southern California. 👏

Consul General Murota also met the daughter of Yoko Ono, Kyoko Chan Cox, and the curator of the exhibition, Sarah Loyer, at the opening show and exhibition.

You may know already that the Broad has several art pieces from famous Japanese artists such as Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama, but did you know that this museum's interior elevator was custom-made by Mitsubishi Electronic? This elevator adds a particular charm to the museum! 🎨🖼️

Let's see how the Consul General Murota explored the Broad's different collections!

On May 27, Consul General Kosei Murota met with Mayor Craig A. Corman of Beverly Hills to discuss potential collaboration between Japan and this iconic city. 🇺🇸🤝 🇯🇵

During the meeting, Mayor Corman shared a report about Japan that he wrote when he was just 9 years old. Consul General Murota was truly impressed by its quality—the report was approximately 15 pages long and remarkably thorough! ✍️
