Today, we pause to remember the unimaginable tragedy of September 11, 2001.
We remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, running toward danger while others were running away. We remember the police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and all of the first responders who answered the call that day.
We remember the thousands of innocent civilians whose lives were taken, the families who were forever changed, and the countless people who continue to carry the weight of that day.
We remember those who were lost, those who survived, those who responded, and those who continue to live with the physical and emotional scars left behind. For the fire service, September 11th is more than a date. It is a reminder of sacrifice, courage, brotherhood, and the responsibility we carry to protect those we serve.
September 11th was among the darkest moments our country has ever faced, but something emerged from that darkness: people came together. In the days and weeks that followed, differences were set aside. Communities stood shoulder to shoulder. Flags flew proudly, strangers helped strangers, and Americans united in support of one another and in gratitude for those who answered the call. That spirit of solidarity is something worth remembering and carrying forward.
From the Loudon Firefighter’s Association, we honor every life lost and every life forever affected.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
